On the occasion of Milton Friedman’s 90th birthday in November 2002, Ben Bernanke, then the Chairman of the Board of Governors for the U.S. Federal Reserve, gave a talk at the University of Chicago entitled “Depression and Recovery.”

George Stigler was a longtime University of Chicago economist, a friend of Milton Friedman and a fellow Nobel Laureate (1982). In this interview — “A Conversation with George Stigler” — he discusses the University’s intellectual culture, Friedman and economics. The interview took place in 1987.

Milton Friedman Memorial Service

The University of Chicago and the Chicago Mercantile Exchange presented a service in memory of Milton Friedman (1912-2006) at Rockefeller Memorial Chapel on Jan. 29, 2007. Featured speakers included Gary Becker, Arnold Harberger, Václav Klaus, Leo Melamed, Michael Walker, and Robert Zimmer, President of the University of Chicago.
